1. The Design Was Inspired By The Thrones Of Chinese Emperors:


It’s true that the Wishbone Chair is associated with Danish style for very obvious reasons, however, the original idea of the design for the streamlined mix of curves and sharp angles came to Wegner’s mind from images of the wide-seated, high-backed thrones of the Ming dynasty. Thus it is said that the design was inspired by the thrones of the Ming dynasty.

2. The Real Of The Chair Is CH24:

Although this furniture is commonly known as the Wishbone Chair or the Y Chair, thanks to its ‘Y’ back frame, but when Wegner first introduced the chair to life he dubbed it the CH24. He designed within his first three weeks at Carl Hansen & Søn, he had created the CH24 along with its four somewhat related designs like CH22, CH23, CH25 and CH26.

3. It Has Been Almost 70 Years Since Its Inception:

One of the most interesting facts about this chair is that it has been around 70 years since its inception. It was first manufactured in 1950 and from then onwards, it has stayed in continuous production at Carl Hansen & Søn. This is something that not all furniture can boast of.

4. Each Of The Chairs Take Weeks To Build:

Based on Wegner’s original design, the Wishbone Chair is practically made up of 14 separate components which require 100 individual processes to chisel, carve, sand, and shape the ultimate finished product. This entire process takes nearly three weeks of preparation time before it can be assembled as a finished product.

5. Its No Paper Pusher:

It’s true that paper is not the first construction material which might come to your head for a chair seat. However, this is a true story for Wishbone chair. It has a nearly 400 feet of paper cord woven into the furniture’s distinctive geometric seat design. According to experts, this paper cord can have a life cycle of approximately 50 years.
